I love to cook.  I am always looking for great new cookbooks to add to my collection.  Do you have a favorite cookbook?  I am also always looking for cookbooks that will help make planning meals for the entire family easier.  Trisha's Table is a great cookbook to have in your collection.  This book is written by Trisha Yearwood with Beth Yearwood Bernard.  The forword is written by Garth Brooks.  The book includes feel good type meals.  These are satisfying meals that my family fell in love with.

This cookbook includes a variety of recipes.  These are comfort foods.  Did you know that Trisha has an 80/20 rule?  This means that she eats healthy 80% of the time, but 20% of the time she splurges.  I agree with this.  I think that you need to eat healthy for the most part, but you need to also enjoy food.  Trisha spent years enjoying Southern style food.  

This cookbook is easy to read.  I really like the way that it is organized.  It is easy to find exactly what you are looking for in the cookbook.  Trisha's Table is broken down into sections.  Some of these sections include breakfast, snacks and appetizers, beef and pork, pasta, and more.  I like that the main dishes are broken down into a specific kind of meat.  This makes it easy to find a specific kind of recipe.

Snacks and Appetizers

Some of these great recipes include Garths Taco Pizza, Kale Chips, Unfried Pickles and more.  What would you want to try?  I fell in love with the Garth's Taco Pizza recipe.  Yum!  This could be served as a snack or appetizer, but my kids really like it as a fun weeknight meal.  You could even use this to put a neat spin on Taco Tuesday.  This recipe consists of pizza crust that is topped with tasty taco toppings.

Soups and Salads

Some of the soup and salad recipes in this section include Tortellini Soup, Slow Cooker Irish Stout Beef Stew, and Wild Rice and Mushroom Soup.  The Slow Cooker Irish Stout Beef Stew is a recipe that I really enjoyed.  This is something that is easy to prep early in the day.  The best part is that it is done at dinnertime.  This is a flavorful slow cooker meal, and it is really easy.  It has a rich hearty flavor from the Guinness beer.

Cakes, Cupcakes and Pies

Some of the yummy treats in this section include Chocolate Orange Cake, Lemon Poppy Seed Cake, and Key Lime Cheesecake with Raspberry Sauce.  I was actually looking for a recipe with lemons. I had a friend give me a bunch of lemons.  The Lemon Poppy Seed Cake was excellent.  This is great as a dessert, but it's also a great cake in the morning with your coffee.  This recipes has a great buttery flavor, and it is accented by flavorful lemon.

I received a Fit Snack box to try out.  I was really impressed with how many items were loaded in this box.  I received individual bags of Simply 7's Quinoa Chips and Lentil Chips.  These definitely are a tasty healthy snack.  They have great crunch, but also great flavor.  I fell in love with The Complete Cookie in this box.  This is egg free and dairy free.  This was a soft cookie and mine was Lemon Poppy Seed flavor.  I also really enjoyed the Fit Snack Veggie Chips.  We love veggies and these are flavorful and crunchy.  The Fit Snack Almond and Pumpkin Seed Mix was another tasty healthy snack.  The box also included some gluten free nogii Whey & Quinoa Protein Powder.  This is full of probiotics and fiber.  Have you ever tried Sunbutter?  I sampled this for the first time and thought it had a really great flavor.  This is a great nut free option.  I also received a Level Life caramel chocolate peanut bar.  It really was tasty.  The Complete Energy Bites are another great snack.  These are wonderful after a workout.  Lastly, the Oven Baked Mix Co. Gluten Free pancake mix was a great allergy friendly product.

Spinach & Artichoke Lasagna Rolls

My 8 year old loved this recipe.  It really was good.  We love artichokes, and they were excellent incorporated into this dish.  It gave the lasagna rolls a great flavor.  The ingredients for this dish came with organic lasagna noodles, organic spinach and artichoke filling, organic tomato-basil sauce, organic parmesan, and more.  The Spinach & Artichoke Lasagna Rolls also came with all the ingredients to create a tasty Balsamic Baby Spinach Salad with walnuts.  This meal really was impressive.

Mediterranean Chicken Thighs

I love the flavors that are in Mediterranean dishes.  I honestly haven't experimented much on recreating these flavors on my own at home until I made this dish.  This dish was so easy to create, and it was very good.  The Mediterranean Chicken was accented by chickpeas, artichoke hearts, arugula, lemon, roasted peppers, and olives.  The flavor was amazing.  The chicken came out juicy and tender.  This really was another great meal.

Panzanella Salad

This is a meal that is light, and fresh.  This is a salad with grass-fed sirloin steak.  The recipe was really easy too.  The steak was placed on top a bread salad.  The salad was loaded with flavor from organic onion, fennel, yellow pepper, green beans, mozzarella, tomatoes, and dressing.  We really enjoyed this unique take on a traditional salad.

A Poem in Your Pocket by Margaret McNamara

I am always trying to introduce my 8 and 10 year old to new types of books.  What kinds of books do your children read?  Did you know that April is National Poetry Month?  A Poem in Your Pocket is a great way to introduce your child to poetry for National Poetry Month!  I honestly haven't read much poetry with my children, but I really need to start doing this.  We often tend to read so much material that comes home from school, and we forget about reading for just enjoyment.  I was really excited when I was given the opportunity to review A Poem in Your Pocket by Margaret McNamara.  This a book that has received two starred reviews.  It is great to read with your children at home, but it is also great if you are an educator and want to introduce your classroom to poetry.

This book is written in a really neat way.  The book is written as a picture book, but it incorporates poetry throughout.  The book is a story about Elinor.  Elinor is a bit of a perfectionist.  She wants her poetry to be absolutely perfect.  This book follows Mr. Tiffin's class as they learn about poetry.  The best part about this book is that Elinor learns to go from being a perfectionist to being creative.  I think this is a great thing to teach children.  Our children have so much pressure on them at such a young age to perform and do well in school.  We really need to stress the importance of creativity too!

I also really enjoyed this book because my children were able to easily relate to many of the things in it.  My 8 and 10 year old have been bringing home homework throughout the year that deals with similes, metaphors, and how to understand how poetry is written.  The book helps explain some of these elements to them in a fun manner that is geared just for kids!

Marvel Books - Review

We receive so many great books from Disney.  Did you know that they also offer a great selection of Marvel books too?  We love all the Disney books, but the Marvel ones are awesome too.  You might think of these as a book for boys, but my 8 year old daughter loves them just as much as my 10 year old son.  It makes me happy to see that she have found a type of book that she really enjoys.

Marvel Avengers Beginnings is a colorful picture book.  This is a great book for any Marvel fan's reading collection.  This 48 page book will be available for purchase on April 7th.  The book will retail for $12.99.  This book includes a blurb and photo of individual Avengers.  The text is simple and easy enough for young readers.  The story is about the start of the Avengers.   

Meet the Marvel Super Heroes is a book that our entire family fell in love with.  This book is written in a reference style format.  This book is a huge resource that is packed with great info on your favorite Marvel Super Heroes.  Each page features a picture of the super hero.  It also explains about the super hero.  This book is a fun way for my 8 year old to do her reading at night.  We have been taking turns reading the pages.  We really like the Question and Answer sections in this book.  This is a neat way to test your knowledge on Marvel Super Heroes.  This book would really make a nice gift for any Marvel fan.
