Growums are an adorable and fun garden kit for kids.  You can see from the picture - Growums are little containers that contain what you need to grow a fun garden.  My kids are 4 and 6 and they love growing their own plants.  We really enjoy growing things we can eat.  Growums makes it really easy and fun.  I received the Growums Taco Garden and we got it started  yesterday.  My kids were able to do this with my assistance.  It's not complicated and it was fun for them.  The Taco Garden includes seeds for jalepenos, iceburg lettuce, cilantro, tomatoes, and cilantro.  It also includes simple directions along with the coco pellets.  Growums come in 6 different varieties.  You can choose from a Taco Garden, Salad Garden, Ratatouillie Garden, Stirfry Garden, Herb Garden and Pizza Garden.  These are a great fun family project too.  I love that it gets my kids involved in growing, but gets them excited about eating the stuff they get to grow too.  Growums can be purchased on their website for $9.99.

I will first start off by saying that this is a product for kids, but I absolutely had too much fun doing this project with my kids.  The Multicolored Beeswax Candle Making Kit from A Toy Garden is a great hands on activity for kids.I have a 4 and 6 year old and they loved it.  They insisted that we make all the candles today.  They've decided that they are going to give their teachers homemade candles for the Holidays this year.  My son isn't always the kind of kid that likes to sit and do craft activities and he loved doing this.  The instructions were great and it was simple to do.  I love that once I got the candle started they were able to roll it up themselves.  We also took little cookie cutters and added some decorations to the candle.  I would definitely recommend this product.  The kit can be purchased on their website for $19.95.  The kit contains enough materials to make 12 candles.

Easy Homemade Laundry Soap

I have been wondering how to make my own laundry soap from simple products for some time now.  

I started out doing some some of my own research and tried to find recipes for homemade laundry soap.  I am not a person that likes extremely complicated things.  I am the kind of person that feels if something is too complicated to make on my own, well then, it just isn't worth the time.  I found many recipes for homemade laundry detergent.  Some of the recipes I found contained more ingredients than the one I chose.  Some consisted of heating a solution in order to make a liquid detergent.  I really didn't want to get that complicated.  I just wanted a simple way to make my own laundry soap.  There are two reasons I wanted to try doing this.  I wanted to save money on store bought laundry detergent and the I wanted to find something that worked well to remove dirt.  I have a 4 and a 6 year old and sometimes I find that I have a hard time getting their clothes clean.  I sometimes even use pre-treaters on their clothes and they don't get stains out.  I also have a husband that is a machinist and his work clothes are filthy when he gets home.  

I found a recipe that I wanted to try, so I set out to buy the products.  I searched about 4 stores before I found the Super Washing Soda that is used in this recipe.  I know you can purchase it online, but it defeats the purpose of me saving money in making my own detergent if I have to buy it online and pay shipping.  I would call around to locate the product because it just isn't really popular.  Look for it in the laundry isle of your grocery store.  The following is the recipe I used for my own homemade detergent.  

1 bar of ivory soap finely grated (with a cheese grater)

1 cup borax

1 cup Super Washing Soda

Combine the above ingredients in a bowl and mix with a spoon for about 5 minutes.  You don't want big chunks of soap in it.  You want everything to combine well.  You can also use any type of bar soap you want.  I personally had the ivory around and used that.  It also doesn't seem to have too much perfume, so I thought that would be a good choice to use since my kids have sensitive skin.  

To use the laundry detergent just place 1 to 2 tablespoons in the bottom of your washing machine and fill with the water.  I suggest adding the dirty laundry once the machine has started filling with water a little bit.  I have noticed that this laundry detergent has worked just as well as some of the store bought detergents I've purchased.   I am amazed at how well it works to lift dirt out of clothes.  

How much does it cost to make a batch of this?  Well the box of borax was $5, the box of Super Washing Soda was $4, and my Ivory soap comes 3 in a pack for $1.  I tripled the recipe and still have tons of borax and Super Washing Soda left.  I was able to make about a 3 months supply of laundry detergent for my family for about $10.

Note:  The Super Washing Soda is not baking soda.  This is a product found in the laundry isle of your store.

Clean Teen Reads Review

Clean Teen Reads is a great new website that provides parents with reviews on books for their teens.  It's a great tool that helps parents decide whether a book would be appropriate for their child.  This is a great website for parents of kids age 10 to 18.  I think it is so important to be aware of what kids are reading and to make sure that it is appropriate for your child.  Clean Teen Reads will tell you whether the book has things in it like offensive language or violence.  I think this is great that we can now be aware of this!  There is also another section of Clean Teen Reads geared towards teens and not the parents.  I think this is a great place for Teens to find books that would interest them as well.  You can also suggest that Clean Teen Reads review a specific book!  Parents  and adults may register for free.  You can also purchase  a subscription for $12 per year if you would like access to the enhanced search options.  I think that's very reasonable considering you will be gaining so much important info about the books your teen will be reading.  If you sign for Clean Teen Reads monthly newsletter (no charge) you can save 17% off your monthly subscription fee!  I personally don't have a teen, but my son is an advanced reader.  He reads above his level, so  I see myself using this in the near future with him because I want to be certain he is reading something appropriate.  It's also a really easy to use website.  It's easy to find what you are looking for whether you are a teen or a parent.

Fekkai Haircare Updated Review

I have been using the Fekkai Full Blown Volume Shampoo and Conditioner for about a month now.  I really like that the shampoo gently cleans your hair without drying it.  It does a great job cleaning without stripping your hair.  It has a great fragrance and isn't too strong smelling either.  The conditioner is great and not oily.  It does a great job softening and make hair shiny without weighing it down.  I really like that you don't have to use a ton of the conditioner to get the tangles out of your hair.  It also has a nice fragrance that isn't too overpowering.  I have been using these in conjunction with the Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Cream before I style my hair.  I really like that this tames my frizzies, but it also smooths and softens.  I love that you only need to use about a pea size for it to do the job too.  If you want really shiny and healthy looking hair I would recommend the Fekkai line of products.  There are a number of varieties to choose from also.  My hair seems very healthy after using the products and I don't see as much damage from heat styling and coloring as I normally do.

Glow Crazy Distance Doodler Review

My kids received a Glow Crazy Distance Doodler to review today.  They were so excited to try it out and so was I!  My 4 and 6 year old absolutely love it and didn't want to stop playing with it.  The Glow Crazy Distance Doodler is great for mom's and dad's that want their kids to have fun creating art, but without the mess.  This is a great toy that allows your kids to be creative and use their imagination.  My kids like that they can put the wall clings up on any wall.  I love that they easily peel off the wall without making a mess.  They are also reusable.  The Glow Crazy Distance Doodler can be used a number of different ways.  It comes with wall clings and stencils.  My 4 year old really liked using it to draw freehand.  My son, who is 6, really enjoyed using the stencils.  It says that this is for ages 6 and up, but my 4 year old was able to use it too with some assistance.  Glow Crazy Distance Doodler comes with a magic lightwand.  You aim the wand at the wall cling and write on the wall from a distance.  Don't worry - this does not actually write on your wall.  The glowing art shows up on the wall cling and the clings can be reused.  It's really neat and I haven't seen anything like it before.  It has kept my kids entertained for hours and don't want to put it down.  I enjoy toys that allow my child to be creative and this is wonderful for that.  This is so much fun that my husband and I both enjoyed playing with it too!

I recently tried DaVinci Groumet's  Naturals Syrups.  If you like making fun drinks at home these are for you.  I used the Wild Raspberry Natural Syrup in an italian soda and it was so good!  My kids loved the italian sodas.  It you haven't had an italian soda then you're missing out.  It's seltzer water or sparkling water mixed with a syrup that makes an amazing soda.  I like that I can add the amount of flavor/sweetness to my soda and make it exactly how I like.  The DaVinci Gourmet Naturals Syrups are perfect for that.  I also have been using the Hawaiian Salted Caramel Syrup in my coffee in the morning.  It's really good and once again you can control the flavor/sweetness that you want to add.  The Hawaiian Salted Caramel Syrup is made with Hawaiian Pink Sea Salt!  The DaVinci Gourmet Naturals Syrups are great because they are made with natural ingredients and flavors.  I also love the Madagascar Vanilla Naturals Syrup in my coffee.  It makes my morning coffee much more interesting!  DaVinci Gourmet makes a variety of flavored syrups and even makes Sugar Free Syrups.  I think that any of their products would be a really neat gift for someone this holiday season in a basket with some coffee or other goodies. If you want to purchase your own DaVinci Gourmet products you can find them on their website.

Oogie's Gourmet Popcorn is Amazing!

I recently tried Oogie's Gourmet Popcorn and it is so good!  I didn't want to stop eating it!  It comes in delicious flavors!  It is really hard to choose a favorite because they are all good.  I really enjoyed the White Cheddar and the Kettle Corn, but they are all delicious.  The Kettle Corn was the best Kettle Corn I have ever had.  It has a great balance of sweet and salty to it.  The Hatch Chili Con Queso is really good too if you're in the mood for a little bit of heat combined with delicious cheese.  My 4 and 6 year old loved the Movie Lovers Buttered!  I picked my son up from school today and brought him some of the Movie Lovers Buttered as a snack and he was in heaven.  I found that Oogies popcorn was fresh tasting, had amazing flavor and had no unpopped kernels in the bag.  It tastes fresh just the way popcorn should!  This is a treat that I can feel good about giving to my family.

HEXBUG NANO Habitat Review

My 4 and 6 year old actually told me about these when they first came out.  They think they are the neatest things and they are.  What is a HEXBUG?  It's a little robotic bug that somehow magically moves around.  It is so much fun to watch them run around.  We recently had the opportunity to review the HEXBUG Nano Original Habitat Set.  I opened the box and would like to say that putting this together was very easy.  I am not fond of toys that are difficult even for me to put together.  I like that the pieces of this set just snap together.  A great part about this habitat is that the parts can be moved around and your kids can use their imagination to customize the habitat however they would like it. We had fun setting the habitat up a few different ways.  We had a really easy time changing it around and it only took about a minute or two to rearrange the habitat a different way.  I love that the habitat keeps the HEXBUGS inside it, so the little guys don't wander around your house.  I like that the habitat starts you off with two HEXBUG NANO bugs to play with.  Also, these are two rare Nano mutations that are included in the set.    This is a great starter set and my kids really enjoyed playing with it.  This would make a great holiday gift.  I would suggest not giving this to anyone under the age of 3 years old though as the HEXBUGS are small.  This is a great gift idea for kids that like robotic toys.  It's interactive and fun.  This is a toy that will hold your child's interest and they won't bore of easily.  That is always great!  This is also a lot of fun for our cat.  He was thoroughly amused by the HEXBUGS and he thought that this was a new toy for him!  HEXBUG makes other types of bugs too!  What HEXBUG do you think your child would enjoy playing with?

CLOSED Country Bob's All Purpose Sauce Review and Giveaway - Ends 11/23

I recently tried Country Bob's All Purpose Sauce and was so pleased.  We used it on BBQ steaks and it was delicious.  It's a great sauce for beef, chicken, pork and anything else you can think of to put it on.  It's a little different than just a normal steak sauce.  It's much more flavorful!  It has a little zip to it, but it's not spicy.  It's great for dipping or basting while you're cooking.  I am going to try it on my grilled pork chops next.  I can't wait.  I also have heard it's great on french fries.  That sounds good too.

Hot Pants are Hot - Review #hotinhotpants

What are HOTPANTS?  They are workout pants that feel like they are made out of wetsuit material.  They increase the amount that you sweat and in return can help you loose in the areas covered by the material.  HOTPANTS are made of Celu-Lite technology that makes it so your body benefits more from your workout.  I am absolutely for anything that helps make me lose weight easier!  These are great to use during your normal workout activities.

I recently received a pair of HOTPANTS to try out and was very excited to see how these work.  I love to exercise and keep in shape, but the problem lately is that I don't have as much time.  I usually get in a Tae Bo or Bootcamp workout about once a week.  I put on my HOTPANTS as soon as I got them.  I wore them around the house at first and couldn't believe that I was sweating just from wearing them around the house.  Yesterday I put them to a test and wore them during my Bootcamp workout I do on DVD.  I will say that I felt like I got more out of my workout.  The area of my body covered by the HOTPANTS definitely got a lot more sweaty.  So, I am going to take the 2 Week Challenge.  Ok so what is that?  In some that tested HOTPANTS they were able to lose 2 jean sizes in 2 weeks just by wearing their HOTPANTS.  I will be using mine during exercise and when I'm doing housework to see if I can lose 2 pants sizes.  I've taken a picture of myself in my HOTPANTS so you can see what they look like.  Hopefully I can get rid of my muffin top by wearing my HOTPANTS!
