What kit would your child love? We received the Break Open Real Geodes kit from Dr. Cool. This was the perfect kit for my 6 and 8 year old. My kids could not wait until I opened the kit to get started. If you have a child that is really into rocks and crystals this kit is perfect. My kids are really into digging around for crystals, so they loved this. The Dr. Cool kit I received comes with 6 great geodes to open. They also offer this kit in larger sizes as well. The kit comes with the instructions you need to break your geodes open too. My kids needed some assistance doing this. They loved to entire process though. They couldn't wait to see what was inside each geode. We opted to put each geode in a sock and then use a hammer to hit it. This was a simpler approach for my kids. When they were done breaking open each geode they sat and looked at them for quite some time.
The Dr. Cool Geode Kit also comes with some great materials on geodes. The kit explains a number of great things about the geodes themselves. I love that part of it. It goes from explaining what geodes are to how they are formed. My kids were really interested in this info because they got to break them open themselves! The pamphlet that is included also talks about how to find geodes and different kinds of them as well.
This kit is available in a 6 geode package. The geodes in this kit come from one mine. The larger kit has 15 geodes and they come from 3 different mines. You might find a geode with quartz, amethyst, calcite or even flourite in it! My kids were very excited about all the pretty crystals they found in our kit! Both kits come with safety glasses and full color instructions. This is a fun activity for the entire family. I enjoyed helping my kids with this just as much as they enjoyed doing it too!
This kit along with the other Dr. Cool Science Kits are great for kids when they are on Summer and Spring break. They are great if you homeschool too. I can see this being a great activity for a class to do as well if you are a teacher. I personally look forward to trying more of these great Science kits from Dr. Cool.
