Frei Brothers Reserve Wines Review

Disclosure - free sample provided.

Frei Brothers began making wines over a century ago in the Sonoma County region.  It all began by Andrew Frei, but he later turned his winery over to his sons.  This is exactly where the winery got it's name.  Gallo has actually had a great interest in the grapes from this vineyard.  They actually purchased grapes from the estate.  The winery was later purchased by Gallo after the Frei family retired.

Frei Brothers is committed to growing the best grapes possible.  Their grapes come from the best growing regions.  They also feel that sustainable farming is important.  I thought it was really neat when I found out that for every acre that they plant of vineyards they set aside an acre to be preserved as a natural habitat for wildlife.

Below you can learn more about some of their newly realeased wines. . .

Frei Brothers 2011 Russian River Valley Chardonnay
This is a wine that winemaker Jim Collins is very proud of.  It is a wonderful wine.  It is a light dry white wine that is said to have a "soft" flavor.  The grapes come from Sonoma County.  This is a really great crisp wine. It is said to have flavors of green apple and toasted oak too.  This is a great wine that is refreshing.  It retails for about $20 a bottle

Frei Brothers 2012 Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc
This is another impressive wine from Frei Brothers.  It is also very refreshing, light, and crisp.  This one is said to have more notes of fruit to it - guava, pineapple, lime, and lychee.  It also has an almost lemony finish.  The grapes for this wine were selected from a variety of different areas in order to create this wine.  This wine retails for about $17 a bottle.

Frei Brothers 2011 Dry Creek Merlot
This is a wonderful dry red.  It's really smooth too.  It's perfect to pair with pasta with red sauce.  The 2011 Dry Creek Merlot is great with Italian food!  This wine is said to have cherry and blueberry undertones.  However, it's definitely not sweet.  The grapes from this wine came from 2 different ranches.  It also has a touch of Petite Sirah blended in.  The end result is a rich and flavorful wine.  This wine retails for about $20 a bottle.

Frei Brothers 2011 Dry Creek Zinfandel
I really enjoyed the 2011 Dry Creek Zinfandel.  It is a lighter red than some.  It is dry, but very smooth.  It has a crispness too it as well.  This wine exhibits a lot of fruitiness.  It also has a touch of Petite Sirah added to it.  The wine is very flavorful and one of my new favorites when it comes to Zin.  This is a very versatile wine.  I think it would pair well with virtually anything.  You can purchase this wine for about $20 a bottle as well.
