Albert Whitman & Company is a great place to find books for Summer reading for children. They offer titles for all ages. They offer picture books, chapter books, novels and more. You may be familiar with them because of the Boxcar Children series. This series is a favorite in our house. We received a great selection of books from Albert Whitman & Company that is truly going to make Summer reading extra fun in our house!
Zapato Power
My 8 year old loves this series. She has read a few of these chapter style books. These are written at a level that is perfect for children just starting to read chapter books. The books also include illustrations throughout. This makes reading fun. Freddie is a likable character. I think young children are able to relate to him, and are amused by his powers. The books in this series are geared towards grades 1-3. This really is a fun series to get your child into reading.
Zapato Power - Freddie Ramos Springs into Action is the 2nd book in the Zapato Power series. This book is a really cute story. It is about Freddie. He has shoes that give him speed. He is a kid, but he is also a super hero.
Zapato Power - Freddie Ramos Zooms to the Rescue is the 3rd book in the Zapato Power series. The story continues on from the previous book, and Freddie has to use his super powers while he is at school. He has to use these powers to help the school!
Zapato Power - Freddie Ramos Stomps the Snow is the 5th book in the Zapato Power series. This book is just as much fun as all of the other books in the series. This book is about a huge snow storm. Freddie is determined to clear all the snow on the sidewalks in the neighborhood. Freddie also finds that there is something strange going on in the neighborhood, and he sets out to fix it.
Sam and Charlie
This is an adorable picture book series. The books are a great read for young readers. The books really are more than a story though. These books often have some kind of lesson or moral associated with the story. This is a neat way to teach your children about values. The Sam and Charlie series of books is geared towards children 5 to 8 years old.
Sam and Charlie (and Sam too) at Camp! This is a story about going to sleep away camp for the first time. This is a great read for Summer too! The book is broken down into days, and what happens at camp. The book starts with Sunday when they say goodbye to family that they won't see for awhile. The book also teaches about friendship.
Sam and Charlie (and Sam too!) is another great book from this series. This book is about a new family moving in next door. This is when Sam meets Charlie. This is another great story, but it also teaches about friendship. It teaches about being neighborly too. I also like that it teaches not to judge. Charlie is actually a girl. However, she was named after a family member by the name of Charlene.
Sam and Charlie (and Sam too) Return! is about Sam and his best friend Charlie. Charlie's little sister is also named Sam, and she is a big part of the story too. All three of the kids in this story are very likable. I think children reading this story truly can relate to the characters. This book also teaches children about friendship.
Super Schnoz - and the Invasion of the Snore Snatchers. My daughter has read a number of the books in the Super Schnoz series. They are fun, entertaining, and incorporate humor into the story. I love to see my children smiling when they read. This book is the 2nd book in the Super Schnoz Series. It is just as funny as the first book too! Andy is the main character. He has a humongous nose. He snores horribly too. This book also incorporates some science fiction in it too. Andy along with others have to defeat the booger blaster. This is a chapter book that is great for children in grades 3 through 6.
The Boxcar Children
This has been a great series in our house for sometime now. My son started out reading the series a few years ago, and loved it. My 8 year old is now also starting to read the books. They are a fun series that follows the orphaned children that are siblings. There are so many books in this series that it is almost impossible for your child to run out of books to read. Did you know that there is even a Boxcar Children Movie? My kids were so excited to watch this because they are fans of the books. I suggest having your child watch this if they read the books! The animated movie is neat because you can see the characters from the book come to life. They really did a great job with the animation. The movie dvd also comes with special features too. It has info about the author. It also has a downloadable activity kit!
The Boxcar Children - The Mystery of the Pissing Pop Idol is the 138th book in this series. This book is about The Boxcar Children meeting their favorite pop star. They are excited about meeting Madlynn Rose. Then something strange happens and the pop star goes missing. They set out to help find her. This book keeps children wanting to read more because of the element of mystery that the author used, and because you aren't sure how the ending will turn out.
The Boxcar Children - The Mystery of the Stolen Dinosaur Bones is the 139th book in this series. This book also incorporates mystery into it. I love that because my children never want to put these books down until they figure out what has happened. The Boxcar Children are looking for dinosaur bones. However, they find a different set of tracks and come across another mystery.
The Black Crow Conspiracy is a book written by Christopher Edge. The author did a great job with this mysterious early novel. This book is geared towards children 8 to 12. The book is a little more challenging than a chapter book. The story is about Penelope. She is looking for a story for the paper. Penelope finds a mysterious letter. She then goes undercover to find out what really is happening.
Biggie is a book that my son fell in love with. This is a young adult novel. It is a story about a kid that is often called biggie. He tries to hide in the shadows even though he is huge. He is over 6 feet tall, and he is more than 300 pounds. He feels that the bigger he is the less that he is picked on. This really is a great read for young adults. I like that the story is easy for him to relate to because so many children are used to being picked on, or called names. This book is geared towards children 13 to 18.
