I want to introduce you to a company called Wholesome Sweeteners. They a huge selection of sweeteners that have a healthier aspect to them. These are still sweeteners and shouldn't be used in excess like all sweeteners. However, these products are quality made and are a delicious way to sweeten anything from coffee to cookies. They are products that I feel good about using myself, but also giving to my family.
I use a variety of sweeteners in baking and in my coffee and tea. What kind of sweeteners do you use frequently? I honestly didn't realize that all sweeteners are not created equally until I sampled the wonderful products from Wholesome Sweeteners. They offer all different kinds of products, so they have something to meet all different diets too. They offer everything from zero calorie sweeteners to honey - and much more.
Wholesome Sweeteners offers Organic Light and Dark Brown Sugar. These are both excellent. I use a ton of brown sugar in my baking and these are great! They also make Organic Sucanant. This product is new to me. The flavor is similar to that of brown sugar, but the texture is dryer. I also was impressed by the agave syrups I received from Wholesome Sweeteners. These are a great low glycemic index substitute for pancake syrups too. They can be used for a variety of different things. I love the honey from Wholesome Sweeteners. This is really good in tea, but my kids love it on pancakes.
I received a beautiful assortment of sweeteners to try. We made a delicious cranberry scone recipe with the use of the Light Brown Sugar and the Turbinado Sugar. These came out so good and are good plain or with a little cream cheese. I have left my recipe below.
Cranberry Sugared Scones
3 cups flour
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 TB. baking powder
3/4 cup margarine
1 cup chopped frozen cranberries
1/2 cup light brown sugar
Turbinado Sugar for the tops
Combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, brown sugar, and margarine. Use a fork to incorporate the margarine until it looks like coarse crumbs. Add the frozen cranberries, vanilla, and buttermilk. Mix just until moistened. You can shape these into 3/4 inch rectangles or roll and cut them in rounds. Place the scones on a cookie sheet. Sprinkle with Turbinado Sugar Bake at 400 for about 15 to 17 minutes. The tops should be golden brown. Let cool and enjoy.
This is just one way to incorporate Wholesome Sweeteners into your baking. These sweeteners are great for teas, coffees and baking. What would you use them for? You can learn more about their products by visiting their website. You can also connect with them on Facebook and Twitter too!
