I was recently introduced to Doscher's Famous Candy. This is a company that has been making candy for a long time. They have been in the candy business for over 100 years. They are known for their French Chew Candy. The vanilla variety is available at most Cracker Barrel restaurants. You can also order their candy online from their website.
The story behind this candy is kind of neat, so I thought I'd share it with you. Doscher's Candy began in 1871. Claus Doscher was a German immigrant. He started out helping his uncles that were in the candy business, but later on he started his own candy company. He started out making caramel corn. He then bought the recipe for taffy that was very popular in France. The taffy was very successful. The candy was available in vanilla until 1939 and then chocolate and strawberry were added. They now offer banana too.
I was so excited to try this candy that goes back so far and has a really neat history. The Doscher's French Chew is delicious. It is a gooey, sticky and sweet candy. My kids love them and so do I. My favorite flavor is the vanilla. I personally love the retro style packaging on these too. It really adds to the fun of the candy. I also received some candy canes to sample and these were excellent too. These are nothing like your typical candy cane. They are beautifully wrapped and you can tell that this is a hand made product.
I was so excited to see the video below too! Doscher's has been featured on Unwrapped on Food Network. Take a look to see more about how it's made!

I am from Cincinnati...and this is my FAVORITE candy from home...I am so glad to see that you enjoyed it :) My Mom still sends me care packages in Texas with stacks of vanilla French Chews in them.. ( candy stores back home sell tiny ones that are sized like tootsie rolls as well...delish!)
ReplyDeleteI never heard of Doscher's Candy before. It looks delicious and I like to try new and different candy. I would enjoy the French Chews for sure.
