Summer Reading with Scholastic

Disclosure - free sample provided.

I love to see my kids curled up and enjoying a good book.  I try and make sure that they read a little bit every day.  Scholastic helps make Summer reading fun for kids.  They offer a huge selection of great books.  They offer so many different categories, and they also offer a great selection of books for all different levels.  I received some great books from Scholastic.  It puts a smile on my face when my kids get excited about reading.  Scholastic really has helped make Summer reading fun for my 7 and 9 year old.  I have even caught my 9 year old reading at night, and not wanting to put his book down.  What books are your children reading this Summer?

Zombie Apocalypse Survival Guide
This book was perfect for my 9 year old son.  It really is interesting.  The book is typically for ages 10 and up.  The book is a fun guide that features things like deadly viruses.  It talks about different disease that have made people ill over the years.  The book also tells you how to identify a zombie.  My son was really interested in the survival skills section.  This portion discuses things like tying knots and more.  This fun book retails for $10.99.

Rainbow Magic
This series is one that my 7 year old has really liked for about a year now.  Has your little girl read any of these?  This series of girl books is perfect for those little girls that love fairies.  These books appeal to children in 2nd and 3rd grade, but are at a 4th grade reading level.  My 7 year old has been reading these (with some help) since 1st grade.  They feature great stories that I feel good about my daughter reading.  We received a selection of their Earth Fairies Series.  Isabella the Air Fairy is a fun story about the fairies going green.  This book is about the Air Fairy wanting to return the beauty to the island..  Nicole the Beach Fairy is another cute story.  This book is about how the beach is covered with trash, and how they fix it.  The Coral the Reef Fairy is a book about a goblin that has taken Coral's wand.  Edie the Garden Fairy is a book about Rachel and Kirsty wanting to create a garden, but they need the help of Edie to do this.  Lily the Rain Forest Fairy is on the lookout for her wand, so she can save the Rain Forrest.  We also received a special edition Rainbow Magic book.  My daughter loved Bailey the Babysitter Fairy.  The book is about Bailey and how great of a babysitter she is.

Puppy Powers
This is a series that is new to us, but my daughter loved it.  My 7 year old loves dogs, so this was a great fit for her.  These books are written by Kristen Earhart.  These books are perfect for children that are in 2nd to 3rd grade.  A Wishbone Come True is a cute puppy story about Lexi.  Her mom and dad will not allow her to get a dog.  Then something happens, and she feels hopeful.  Take a Bow-Wow is a story about Sadie.  She enjoys training her dog who is named Truffle.  Wag You're It is a story about Max and his golden retriever.

Geronimo Stilton
The Geronimo Stilton books are also a new series for us.  These are books that are perfect for 2nd through 4th graders.  I have a 2nd and 4th grader, and both of them loved these.  I found that the books incorporate fun pictures that really help make reading fun.  Spacemice Alien Escape featuring the spacemouse Geronimo Stilton.  This is a cute adventure type book that engages your child in the story about aliens.  Spacemice You're Mine, Captain is another cute title.  This spacemouse is on an adventure in space.  He has to help out the aliens.  Geronimo Stilton also have a Cavemice series too.  The book we received is called The Great Mouse Race.  He lives with the dinosaurs in the stone age.

Princess Pink
We received a copy of Moldylocks and the Three Beards.  This really is a great chapter style book, but it is written in a really fun way.  The book has great color pictures, but it is almost written like a comic in some ways.  The book is kind of a spoof on some old fairy tales that many of us are familiar with.

Kung Pow Chicken
The Birdy Snatches by Cyndi Marko is what I would call a cross between a chapter book and a comic book.  My kids liked this book because it is a book that is perfect for 1st through 3rd graders  This book is about a chicken called Gorden Blue.  It is a cute and silly read.

Fly Guy
Fly Guy Presents:  Firefighters is a great leveled reader type book.  This book is geared towards about 2nd grade level.  The book incorporates pictures, and simple text.  It is perfect for those that are just starting to read, or not a real advanced reader.  The book is a neat way to teach about firefighters, but in a unique way. T he book features the fun characters Fly Guy and Buzz.

Polar animals is a really neat educational book about animals in the Arctic and Antarctic.  It contains pages of beautiful color pictures too.  This is a great way to have your child learn about something fun and get them excited about it.  It features animals like the Ice Bear, White Whales, Orca's and more.

We also received a copy of Drones.  My 9 year old son's eyes lit up completely when he saw this book.  This really is a neat educational book.  The book explains what drones are, and shows great color pictures of them too.  It also includes interesting facts like how big they are.

Birds is a discover more book by Scholastic.  This is a beautifully illustrated book.  I love that it teaches my kids about all different kinds of birds.  It starts out by explaining what a bird is, and that all birds lay eggs.  This would be an excellent book as a reference for a report too!

These are just some of the many great books that Scholastic has to offer.  You can learn more about all of their books by visiting their website.
