Back to School Reading Review - Scholastic Books

Disclosure - free sample provided.

I am really trying to teach my children to love to read.  It can be hard when back to school season approaches to find time to read.  I have my 7 and 9 year old read daily while they are home.  I also send them with a book in their backpacks to school.  They are given silent reading time, and they seem to enjoy reading more if it is a book that they want to read.  Scholastic offers a variety of books for children of all ages.  They help make reading fun.  We received a selection of great books from Scholastic that has made reading during the back to school season easy, but also enjoyable for my children.

My son absolutely loves Minecraft.  Scholastic offers some great books for children that really like Minecraft.  They offer a Minecraft Essential Handbook.  This is a great book for those that want to learn more about the game.  It is a book of great tips.  My son enjoyed this book so much that he uses it as a reference, but he has read it over and over again.  This book retails for $7.99.  Scholastic also offers the Minecraft Redstone Handbook.  This book was also a big hit with my 9 year old.  This book explains mining and logic circuits.  He has also read this one a number of times.  This book retails for $7.99 also.

My 9 year old also enjoys playing the Pokemon card game.  He was so excited when the Kalos Region Handbook arrived.  This is a book of stats and facts on more than 450 Pokemon.  This really is a great book for any child that love Pokemon.  This book is written in an index style, so it is really easy to look up exactly what you are looking for.  The book retails for $8.99.

Secret Kingdom
These books are a great choice for my 7 year old.  They are written at about a 4th grade level, but would be great for grades 2 through 4.  They are simple chapter books and also feature some drawings throughout the pages.  The series features 4 fun books.  The Secret Kingdom Mermaid Reef is a story beneath the sea.  The story is about Ellie, Jasmine, and Summer.  They are on a journey to save the Secret Kingdom's wishing pearl.  The Secret Kingdom is another great book about friendship.  This book the girls visit Could Island.  Once again the girls have to find a thunderbolt that Queen Malice has hidden.  They need to find it to save Cloud Island.  These books retail for $4.99 each.

Rescue Princesses
This is a series of books about rescue princesses.  They are not just princesses though.  The Ice Diamond is a story about the rescue princesses visiting Lepari.  The princesses are on a mission to keep the leopards from being harmed.  The story is about how they are going to do this.  this book retails for $4.99.

Eerie Elemenatary
Eerie Elementary - The School is Alive is one of Scholastic's books from their Branches collection.  We have read a number of their Branches books.  They are excellent for the child that is ready to step into a chapter style book.  They are challenging, but not frustrating.  The illustrations throughout the pages also really make the reading fun.  This book is about Sam and how he is the hall monitor.  The book really is fun because the school is alive.  This book just became available in July of 2014.

These are just some of the great reads available from Scholastic.  You can learn more about all of their books by visiting their website.
